Services consulting

SEO consulting that compounds, not a checklist

SEO consulting means establishing where your organic visibility actually stands, fixing what structurally prevents growth, then building authority on topics where you can realistically win. It is a two-year asset, not a monthly activity.

What does an SEO consultant actually do?

An SEO consultant diagnoses why a website is not capturing the organic search demand it should, and fixes the specific causes. In practice that means four things, in this order: confirming the site can be found and indexed at all; establishing what it currently ranks for versus what it could rank for; deciding which gaps are worth closing given your resources; and specifying the work precisely enough that it can be executed consistently for months.

The failure mode is skipping the first step. A site can be technically perfect on paper and receive no traffic because a staging environment is blocking the production domain, or a robots.txt directive is malformed, or canonical tags point every page at the homepage. None of that is visible without looking at Search Console coverage data and server logs, and a consultant who only looks at a third-party tool's score will miss every one of them.

A genuine consulting engagement produces a written diagnosis you keep, a prioritized roadmap with effort and impact stated for each item, and periodic review against that roadmap. Anything less is a service being sold by the hour.

How has SEO changed in 2026?

SEO in 2026 is classic SEO plus one genuinely new surface. The fundamentals are unchanged and still decisive: crawlability, indexation, relevance, authority, performance, and satisfying the intent behind the query.

What is new is that a meaningful share of buying research now happens inside an AI-generated answer rather than a list of ten blue links. Google states plainly that optimising for these features is still SEO and that no special files or markup are required. That is true. It is also incomplete, because the selection mechanism differs: an AI answer engine retrieves self-contained passages and cites a handful of sources, so a page whose value depends on being read in full may never be lifted out of it.

The practical consequence is that section-level extractability, evidence density and unambiguous entity statements now matter alongside everything else. We treat this as part of SEO rather than a separate service because it shares the same underlying work. It is covered in detail in AI search optimization.

The four pillars of a sound SEO strategy

Every SEO engagement we run maps onto four pillars. Most businesses have one that is structurally broken and are spending all their effort on the one that is already fine.

Technical foundation

Can the search engine find, crawl, render and index every page you want visible? Crawl waste, indexation blocks, canonical errors, render failures and Core Web Vitals. Usually unglamorous, frequently decisive.

Content and topical authority

Does the site comprehensively cover the topics your buyers care about, at the depth they need, with evidence a sceptical reader would accept? This is where most of the durable ranking gains live.

Authority and off-site presence

Do independent, relevant sources reference your business in a way a moderator would not remove? Quality and editorial judgement, not volume. Branded mentions correlate more strongly with AI Overview appearances than link metrics do.

Search experience and intent match

Does the landing page satisfy what the searcher was trying to do? This is the most under-rated pillar, and it determines whether traffic converts or bounces.

Technical SEO has its own page: technical SEO consulting. Content has content marketing consulting.

How long does SEO take to work?

Honest answer: technical fixes show in three to eight weeks, content and authority gains take six to twelve months, and competitive rankings in a contested category can take considerably longer than a year. Anyone promising faster across the board is not describing a process.

Realistic ranges. Competitiveness, site authority and history all move these numbers.
Work typeFirst observable signalMeaningful impact
Analytics and tracking fixes1–2 weeksImmediate — you can finally trust the numbers
Technical indexation fixes3–6 weeks8–16 weeks, once re-crawled
Core Web Vitals remediation4–10 weeks10–20 weeks in field data
Internal linking and architecture4–8 weeks3–6 months
New or substantially rewritten content6–12 weeks4–9 months
Digital PR and authority building3–6 months9–18 months
AI citation rate improvement8–16 weeks3–6 months, and hard to attribute precisely

How to tell a good SEO consultant from a bad one

Four questions in the first call will tell you more than any case study on their website. The good answers are specific to your business; the bad ones are reusable.

  1. "What is my organic conversion rate, and how do you know?" If the answer is vague or generic, they have not looked at your business.
  2. "What would you remove from my current plan?" Good consultants cut. A plan that only adds is a plan that has not been prioritized.
  3. "How would you know within 90 days whether this was working?" The answer should name specific metrics and a threshold, not "we will monitor progress".
  4. "Can I speak to a client where it did not go well?" If every engagement is a success story, the reporting is curated.

There is more on this in how to choose a marketing agency, and on the pricing traps in how much SEO costs in 2026.

How does an SEO engagement run?

Four phases, consistent across every engagement. The timeline varies; the order does not, because skipping the first two phases is the most reliable way to waste a marketing budget.

Step 1

Diagnose

Search Console coverage and queries, analytics accuracy, technical crawl, competitive set, current authority profile. Written findings regardless of whether you continue.
Step 2

Prioritize

Every opportunity sized by expected impact against effort, cost and risk, then cut to what is achievable this quarter. Deliberately short.
Step 3

Execute

Specification detailed enough for your team to implement, or implemented by us, agreed in writing. Content briefs include the target query, intent, internal linking targets and the AI-extractability requirement.
Step 4

Measure

Reporting against the phase-one baseline: rankings by intent stage, non-brand organic traffic, conversions, and citation rate in AI answers.

Indicative costs and engagement models are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an SEO consultant and an SEO agency?
A consultant advises and specifies; an agency advises and executes. A consultant should be able to hand you a document detailed enough that your own team could implement it without asking questions — that test is the clearest way to tell genuine advisory work from work that exists to create a dependency on the provider.
Do you guarantee first-page rankings?
No. Rankings cannot be purchased and no competent practitioner will guarantee them. A guarantee implies either that the technique is indefensible or that the timeline is short enough that you will not notice the damage when a manual action lands. What we commit to is a documented process and honest measurement.
How much does SEO cost per month?
Indicative 2026 ranges are between €1,500 and €5,000 per month for advisory work, and €4,000 to €15,000 per month where implementation is included. Scope, market competitiveness and required content volume move this more than anything else. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
How much content do we need to publish?
Usually far less than currently, usually better. Publishing volume was treated as strategy for years and it does not survive an algorithm update. We would rather consolidate ten thin posts into one authoritative page than add eleven new thin ones. The volume question is a consequence of the prioritisation, not an input to it.
Should we focus on AI search instead of traditional SEO?
No — AI retrieval is layered on top of the same index, so classic SEO remains the precondition rather than the alternative. AI visibility is an additional surface worth optimising for, and it rewards passages that are self-contained and evidence-dense. Doing classic SEO badly and hoping AI answers will compensate is not a strategy.
How long before we see organic traffic growth?
Technical fixes typically produce observable change in three to eight weeks. Content and authority work takes six to twelve months. If someone promises meaningful traffic growth in thirty days from an audit, ask what technique they are using and what the manual-action risk is.
Can you work with our existing in-house team?
Yes, and it is often the better outcome. We diagnose and specify; your team executes. That builds internal capability rather than dependency, and it is the cheaper model for both sides. Where there is genuinely no in-house capacity, we will tell you whether implementation is realistic before you commit.
What happens if we do nothing at all?
Nothing catastrophic, in the short term — you will not get worse for a while. But competitors who act will compound, and organic is typically the highest-return channel over a multi-year horizon. Inaction is a decision, just an unexamined one.
